| How AI is used | List each disputed item, the date the dispute was received, the furnisher, and the documents the consumer sent. Do not write the agency's or the furnisher's response. |
| What the lawyer must review | 15 U.S.C. § 1681i requires a consumer reporting agency that receives a dispute of the completeness or accuracy of an item to reinvestigate. The section states a 30-day period, which may be extended by not more than 15 days if the consumer provides more relevant information during the 30 days. The agency must notify the furnisher before the end of the five-business-day period after it receives the dispute. It may end a reinvestigation it reasonably determines is frivolous or irrelevant, and must then notify the consumer within five business days. You check the dates and decide whether the dispute is frivolous. The tool does not send the notice. |

## Checking plan

- What the AI does: List each disputed item, the date the dispute was received, the furnisher, and the documents the consumer sent. Do not write the agency's or the furnisher's response.
- Basis: Checked against the linked sources on 22 October 2026. Confirm the current instrument before reliance.

## Notes

- Furnisher duties when a consumer disputes directly with the furnisher are in a different section. Open that section before advising a furnisher.
- A consumer report is not an Australian credit-reporting correction under the Privacy Act.
