| How AI is used | From the application and any later withdrawal, set out who the opened section says bears the costs, and whether the section treats a withdrawal by itself as a reason to depart from that position. Do not write a costs submission or a costs order. |
| What the lawyer must review | The lawyer decides whether exceptional circumstances, or a vexatious, frivolous or bad-faith application, are arguable on this file, and writes anything that is filed. |

## Checking plan

**Source-by-source verification**

State the s 154 starting point and the withdrawal rule, and leave the exception for the lawyer.

- What the AI does: From the application and any later withdrawal, set out who the opened section says bears the costs, and whether the section treats a withdrawal by itself as a reason to depart from that position. Do not write a costs submission or a costs order.
- What the lawyer does: The lawyer decides whether exceptional circumstances, or a vexatious, frivolous or bad-faith application, are arguable on this file, and writes anything that is filed.
- Who reviews: Responsible lawyer with competence in the matter
- Basis: Practical workflow informed by the linked primary sources; the traffic light and working checks are editorial guidance, not a court classification.
- Why: The level reflects what the work is, the consequence of an error, and how much of the output the lawyer must independently re-derive.

## Checks the lawyer makes

1. Record s 154(1) own-costs as the starting point for an intervention-order proceeding and for variation, extension or revocation of a recognised DVO.
2. Do not treat a withdrawal, by itself, as exceptional circumstances or as vexatious, frivolous or bad faith.
3. If a costs order is being considered against an absent person, record the adjournment and the next-mention notice in s 154(5).
4. Do not write the costs submission. Other states are blank until their sections are opened.

## Notes

- These are suggested working checks. Confirm the required checking with the responsible lawyer before work starts; the checking approach does not establish permission to use AI.
- New South Wales and Queensland costs provisions were not opened.
