## Checks the lawyer makes

1. If a period is written on the order, the end date is that period unless the order is sooner revoked or set aside on appeal.
2. If no period is written, record that the order continues until revoked or set aside on appeal. Do not invent a default length.
3. If the respondent is a child, a specified period must not exceed 12 months unless the exceptional-circumstances test in s 98 is met.
4. The safety of the protected person is the paramount matter in s 97(2). The lawyer chooses the period.
