## Checking plan

**Lawyer-led judgement**

The lawyer makes the substantive assessment. Any permitted AI assistance remains supporting work with its own checks.

- What the AI does: From the student's records, plans and adjustments history the lawyer supplies, extract a dated table of the adjustments made, the behaviour incidents and the supports tried. The tool does not write the advice.
- What the lawyer does: The lawyer decides whether the proposed exclusion or expulsion is lawful under the governing instrument and consistent with the Disability Discrimination Act 1992 and the Disability Standards for Education 2005, what further steps must be taken first, and writes the advice.
- Who reviews: Responsible lawyer with competence in the matter
- Basis: Practical workflow informed by the linked primary sources; the traffic light and working checks are editorial guidance, not a court classification.
- Why: The level reflects what the work is, the consequence of an error, and how much of the output the lawyer must independently re-derive.
- Restriction: The lawyer makes the substantive assessment. Any permitted AI assistance remains supporting work with its own checks.

## Checks the lawyer makes

1. Check the adjustments table against the student's plans and records, not the school's summary.
2. Confirm the advice addresses the Disability Standards for Education as well as the school's own procedure.
3. Confirm any additional steps the instrument requires for the student's cohort have been taken or are planned.

## Notes

- These are suggested working checks. Confirm the required checking with the responsible lawyer before work starts; the checking approach does not establish permission to use AI.
