## Key facts

| Fact | Value |
| --- | --- |
| Practice area | [Class Actions / Representative Proceedings](https://ailawframework.com/practice/class-actions-representative-proceedings.md) |
| Human involvement | Red: Lawyer writes; AI may check, clarify or collect data |
| How AI is used | Check the lawyer's draft notice against the court's notice orders or, before they are made, the orders sought and the court's sample notices, the class definition and, for a settlement notice, the deed and the distribution scheme, and list each required element — including who is a group member in the terms of the pleaded class definition, the opt-out date and how to opt out, that a group member who does not opt out will be bound by the judgment or approved settlement and cannot bring their own claim, the registration deadline and the consequence of not registering, the effect of the settlement on group members' rights and the release, how and by when to object, funding and deduction statements, and contact points — as present, missing or inconsistent with its source. List the notice steps the orders require, then check them against the methods, recipient lists and dates actually proposed — post, email, advertisement, website, market announcement — and set out each required step beside the step proposed, flagging any gap. |
| What the lawyer must review | The lawyer writes the notice. Notice content and method are court-controlled: work from the sealed orders as made rather than a draft, confirm that the opt-out date, the registration deadline, the stated consequence of not registering, the binding effect on a group member who does not opt out and, in a settlement notice, the release and the objection date match the orders, the class definition and the deed, and do not give notice until the court has approved it where approval is required. |

## Checking plan

**Source-by-source verification**

Trace relied-on content to independent sources and check for relevant material the output has missed.

- What the AI does: Potential support includes preparing preliminary structure or wording. Confirm the tool’s capability and permitted scope.
- What the lawyer does: Set the scope, verify the evidence, resolve exceptions and approve the final output for its intended use.
- Who reviews: Responsible lawyer with competence in the matter
- Basis: Suggested checking approach based on the task guidance. Complete the assessment for the actual tool, information and jurisdiction.
- Why: The plan reflects the described work and review requirements. Policy colours are not used to determine permission or checking.

## Checks the lawyer makes

1. Trace every relied-on figure to its source, confirm dates and assumptions, and independently recalculate totals or derived amounts.
2. Calculate operative dates independently from the current rule and actual triggering event. Check exceptions and record the verified deadline.
3. Review operative clauses in the complete document, including definitions, cross-references, schedules and inconsistencies with the instructions.
4. Confirm that the wording reflects the client’s instructions and contains no unintended admission, concession or commitment. Check the recipient and tone.
5. Use an appropriately qualified person to verify translation and meaning, and confirm any certification required for the intended use.
6. Obtain and inspect the relevant current official register or search result. Confirm identities, interests and the date and scope of the search.
7. Review the original source set for relevant material absent from the output, including contrary evidence, qualifications and unresolved gaps.
8. Confirm the output against the client’s instructions and the complete relevant source material, including omissions or contradictions.
9. Resolve exceptions and record the responsible lawyer’s approval of the exact output and intended use.

## Notes

- Confirm the required checking with the responsible lawyer before work starts. The checking approach does not establish permission to use AI.
