| How AI is used | The tool extracts the named beneficiary, the amount, the expiry, and whether the draft presentation tracks the conditions stated in the letter of credit. It does not write the demand or the presentation. |
| What the lawyer must review | UCC Sections 5-103 and 5-108. Article 5 applies to letters of credit. Section 5-103(d) makes the issuer's obligations to a beneficiary independent of the existence, performance, or nonperformance of the underlying contract. Except as Section 5-109 provides, Section 5-108(a) requires the issuer to honor a presentation that, as determined by the standard practice referred to in subsection (e), appears on its face strictly to comply with the terms and conditions of the letter of credit. Except as Section 5-113 provides, and unless otherwise agreed with the applicant, the issuer shall dishonor a presentation that does not appear so to comply. Subsection (b) gives a reasonable time after presentation, not beyond the end of the seventh business day of the issuer after the day of receipt of the documents, to honor, to accept a draft or incur a deferred obligation where the credit provides for honor more than seven business days after presentation, or to give notice of discrepancies. Except as subsection (d) provides, the issuer is precluded from asserting a discrepancy if timely notice is not given, or any discrepancy not stated in the notice if timely notice is given. Subsection (d) preserves fraud, forgery, and expiration even if the notice omits them. The lawyer makes the strict-compliance call and writes any presentation. |

## Checking plan

- What the AI does: The tool extracts the named beneficiary, the amount, the expiry, and whether the draft presentation tracks the conditions stated in the letter of credit. It does not write the demand or the presentation.
- Basis: Checked against the linked sources on 22 October 2026. Confirm the current instrument before reliance.

## Notes

- The lawyer reads the enacting state's current Article 5. Subsection (e) was opened only through its first sentence on standard practice. Sections 5-109 and 5-113 were not applied beyond the cross-references in Section 5-108.
- A surety bond, or an undertaking that is not a letter of credit, is outside this task.
- The lawyer writes the presentation and any demand. The tool writes none of that text.
