| How AI is used | List the person to be summoned, the documents the summons would call for, the place the arbitrators sit, and the fee note the file contains. Write no summons and no petition. |
| What the lawyer must review | 9 U.S.C. § 7: the arbitrators, or a majority, may summon in writing any person to attend and, in a proper case, to bring any book, record, document, or paper which may be deemed material. The summons issues in the name of the arbitrators or a majority, is signed by them, and is served in the same manner as subpoenas to appear and testify before the court. Witness fees are the same as the fees of witnesses before masters of the United States courts. If the person refuses, the United States district court for the district in which the arbitrators, or a majority, are sitting may compel attendance on petition. The lawyer writes and the arbitrators sign. A petition is a court paper. Federal Rule of Civil Procedure 11(b) is the lawyer’s certification of that petition. Formal Opinion 512 does not authorise the tool to sign either paper. |

## Checking plan

- What the AI does: List the person to be summoned, the documents the summons would call for, the place the arbitrators sit, and the fee note the file contains. Write no summons and no petition.
- Basis: Checked against the linked sources on 22 October 2026. Confirm the current instrument before reliance.

## Notes

- The summons is the arbitrators’ process under § 7. It is not a district-court subpoena issued by the clerk at the start.
- Territorial limits on an arbitrator’s summons were not opened beyond the district named in § 7 for the petition to compel.
