| Human involvement | Yellow: Lawyer and AI draft together |
| How AI is used | Against the draft, list whether it is in writing, whether a majority signed it, whether any signature is electronic or digital, and whether the parties requested a reasoned award in writing before the arbitrator was appointed. Do not rewrite the award. |
| What the lawyer must review | You decide whether the draft meets the rule, and you write any court application. Rule R-48 says any award shall be in writing and signed by a majority of the arbitrators. Signatures may be electronic or digital. The award shall be executed in the form and manner required by law. The arbitrator need not render a reasoned award unless the parties request one in writing before the arbitrator is appointed, or unless the arbitrator determines that a reasoned award is appropriate. The opened text of Rule R-48 does not require the award to state a date or a place. 9 U.S.C. § 11(c) is a court application, not a drafting checklist: the United States court for the district in which the award was made may modify or correct the award where it is imperfect in matter of form not affecting the merits of the controversy. Sections 11(a) and 11(b) are the miscalculation and excess-of-submission grounds. The order may modify and correct so as to effect the intent and promote justice. |

## Checking plan

- What the AI does: Against the draft, list whether it is in writing, whether a majority signed it, whether any signature is electronic or digital, and whether the parties requested a reasoned award in writing before the arbitrator was appointed. Do not rewrite the award.
- Basis: Checked against the linked sources on 22 October 2026. Confirm the current instrument before reliance.

## Notes

- The opened PDF dates the Commercial Arbitration Rules as amended and effective 1 September 2022, and the Commercial Mediation Procedures as amended and effective 1 June 2026. Confirm the text in force when the demand or the mediation request was filed.
- Rule R-48 does not require a reasoned award unless the parties asked for one in writing before appointment, or the arbitrator determines that one is appropriate.
- A federal judge's standing order does not apply inside the arbitration.
