| Human involvement | Yellow: Lawyer and AI draft together |
| How AI is used | List who would pay, whether the file shows the client's informed consent, and any term that would let that person direct the lawyer's judgment. Do not say the consent was informed. |
| What the lawyer must review | You decide whether the compensation may be accepted. Rule 1.8(f) says a lawyer shall not accept compensation for representing a client from one other than the client unless the client gives informed consent, there is no interference with the lawyer's independence of professional judgment or with the client-lawyer relationship, and information relating to representation of the client is protected as required by Rule 1.6. Rule 1.4(a)(1) requires the lawyer to promptly inform the client of any decision or circumstance with respect to which the client's informed consent, as defined in Rule 1.0(e), is required. Rule 1.0(e) and Rule 1.6 were not the pages used for the content of those definitions, so this check uses only the conditions Rule 1.8(f) states. These pages do not require a costs-disclosure schedule to a third person, and they do not sort payers into the Australian categories. The tool does not decide that consent was informed or that independence is intact. |

## Checking plan

- What the AI does: List who would pay, whether the file shows the client's informed consent, and any term that would let that person direct the lawyer's judgment. Do not say the consent was informed.
- Basis: Checked against the linked sources on 22 October 2026. Confirm the current instrument before reliance.

## Notes

- Rule 1.6 was not opened. Do not restate what it protects beyond the cross-reference in Rule 1.8(f)(3).
- Payment by an insurer or a litigation funder is still compensation from one other than the client if that is the arrangement. The three conditions still have to be met.
