| How AI is used | List the judgment, the ground the file identifies, and the amount or fair estimate the file supports. Do not write the motion. |
| What the lawyer must review | You decide whether a motion is the right vehicle and what it must contain. Rule 54(d)(2)(A) says a claim for attorney's fees and related nontaxable expenses must be made by motion unless the substantive law requires those fees to be proved at trial as an element of damages. Unless a statute or a court order provides otherwise, Rule 54(d)(2)(B) requires the motion to be filed no later than 14 days after the entry of judgment; to specify the judgment and the statute, rule, or other grounds entitling the movant to the award; to state the amount sought or provide a fair estimate of it; and to disclose, if the court so orders, the terms of any agreement about fees for the services for which the claim is made. Rule 54(d)(2)(E) says subparagraphs (A) through (D) do not apply to claims for fees and expenses as sanctions for violating the rules or under 28 U.S.C. § 1927. Rule 54(d)(1) is a different claim: costs other than attorney's fees, which the clerk may tax on 14 days' notice, with a motion to review served within the next 7 days. In a certified class action, Rule 23(h) requires the claim to be made by motion under Rule 54(d)(2) at a time the court sets. This is not a bill to the lawyer's own client. The tool does not compute the fee and does not file the motion. |

## Checking plan

- What the AI does: List the judgment, the ground the file identifies, and the amount or fair estimate the file supports. Do not write the motion.
- Basis: Checked against the linked sources on 22 October 2026. Confirm the current instrument before reliance.

## Notes

- A statute or a court order can change the 14-day period. Read the order in this case.
- Fees that must be proved at trial as damages are outside Rule 54(d)(2)(A). Do not force them into this motion.
