## Checking plan

**Source-by-source verification**

An advice answer includes the alternatives the rule requires, unless the lawyer is satisfied the client already understands them.

- What the AI does: From the answer the tool proposes to give a client, list whether it states alternatives to fully contested adjudication of the case. Do not add the alternatives.
- What the lawyer does: The lawyer decides whether the rule applies to this answer, whether the client already understands the alternatives, and what the answer must say.
- Who reviews: Responsible lawyer with competence in the matter
- Basis: Practical workflow informed by the linked primary sources; the traffic light and working checks are editorial guidance, not a court classification.
- Why: The level reflects what the work is, the consequence of an error, and how much of the output the lawyer must independently re-derive.

## Checks the lawyer makes

1. A solicitor must inform the client or the instructing solicitor about the alternatives to fully contested adjudication of the case which are reasonably available to the client, unless the solicitor believes on reasonable grounds that the client already has such an understanding of those alternatives as to permit the client to make decisions about the client's best interests.
2. The check is for a tool that is giving the practice's advice. It is not a review of a tool that is kept on the no-advice side of a public screen.
3. The lawyer decides which alternatives are reasonably available and whether the client already understands them.
4. The tool's answer is not sent until the lawyer has settled it.

## Notes

- These are suggested working checks. Confirm the required checking with the responsible lawyer before work starts; the checking approach does not establish permission to use AI.
