| How AI is used | From the practice's matter-type list and the files opened over the last twelve months, build a row for each matter type against each item of Table 6 in subsection 6(5B) of the AML/CTF Act, extract the activity the practice actually performs in that work, and mark each row captured, not captured or unresolved with the item number it turns on. |
| What the lawyer must review | The principal reads every row against what the practice does on those files rather than against the matter-type label: an estate administration that sells real estate engages item 1 even though the file is called probate. Test the unresolved rows on real recent examples, because conveyancing, company formations, trust restructures and holding client funds are the rows that move. The enrolment decision and its date are the principal's, not the map's. |

## Checking plan

**Source-by-source verification**

Trace relied-on content to independent sources and check for relevant material the output has missed.

- What the AI does: From the practice's matter-type list and the files opened over the last twelve months, build a row for each matter type against each item of Table 6 in subsection 6(5B) of the AML/CTF Act, extract the activity the practice actually performs in that work, and mark each row captured, not captured or unresolved with the item number it turns on.
- What the lawyer does: The principal reads every row against what the practice does on those files rather than against the matter-type label: an estate administration that sells real estate engages item 1 even though the file is called probate. Test the unresolved rows on real recent examples, because conveyancing, company formations, trust restructures and holding client funds are the rows that move. The enrolment decision and its date are the principal's, not the map's.
- Who reviews: Responsible lawyer with competence in the matter
- Basis: Practical workflow informed by the linked primary sources; the traffic light and working checks are editorial guidance, not a court classification.
- Why: The level reflects what the work is, the consequence of an error, and how much of the output the lawyer must independently re-derive.

## Checks the lawyer makes

1. Read each captured and not-captured row against what the practice actually does on those files, not the matter-type name; correct any row the file sample contradicts.
2. Confirm the geographical link under subsection 6(6) for work done for offshore clients or on offshore assets before marking a row not captured.
3. Check that advisory and advocacy work with no transaction to plan or execute is marked not captured for a stated reason, never left blank.
4. Test the map against a sample of ten recently opened files and add any matter type the sample shows the practice runs but the list omitted.
5. Record the enrolment decision, its date and the AUSTRAC Account Number on the map; a practice providing designated services must apply to enrol by 29 July 2026 under section 51B.

## Notes

- These are suggested working checks. Confirm the required checking with the responsible lawyer before work starts; the checking approach does not establish permission to use AI.
