# A court AI rule does not travel with the file

> Read the instrument for the forum on this file. A note for another court is not the rule.

This is general information about using AI in legal work in Australia. It is not legal advice, and it is not a decision on your matter, your client or your court.

## Steps

1. **Name the forum.** Write the court or tribunal the document is for. ‘Australia’ is not a forum. State and territory practice notes are not interchangeable.
2. **Read that forum’s instrument.** Open the practice note or guide for that court. A Federal Court note does not tell you what the Supreme Court of Victoria requires, and the reverse is also true.
3. **Do not treat silence as permission.** If no instrument is on file for that forum, that is not a finding that none exists. Check the court’s own page.
4. **Match the document.** A rule about an affidavit, a submission or a witness statement may not be the rule for a letter of advice. Read what the instrument covers.

## Questions

**Is this legal advice?**

No. These notes are general information about using AI in legal work in Australia. They are not advice on a matter, a client or a court.

**Who can read a note I save?**

Only the account that saved it. A note on this public page is different: anyone can read it. Your own notes are not published.

**What should I leave out of a saved note?**

Leave out a client’s name, a file number and other personal information unless you mean to store it on this account.
