# How to use AI for migration applications in Australia

> A migration application is legislation, a criterion and a document. An agent or lawyer checks each of them. A secondary write-up of OMARA guidance is not the Office’s own page.

## Check this before you rely on it

The linked OMARA item is carried on a Migration Alliance page. Read it as a pointer, then verify the criterion in the Migration Act and the instrument. The Uniform Law statement, the Law Society of New South Wales guide and Queensland Guidance Statement No. 37 apply to lawyers on the file. Registered migration agents have the OMARA code as well.

## Steps

1. **Start from OMARA’s own position.** The batch source points to OMARA guidance through a Migration Alliance article. Use that article to find the Office’s position, and do not treat the article as the code. A lawyer on the matter also reads the Uniform Law regulators’ statement and the Law Society of New South Wales guide. An agent reads the code that actually binds the registration.
2. **Check the criterion in the legislation.** Visa criteria move. Open the Migration Act, the regulations and the current instrument, and match the draft to the criterion number. A tool’s paraphrase is not the criterion. The citation guide on this site is the same discipline for a case.
3. **A person checks the whole submission.** Names, dates, passport numbers and the answer to each criterion are read by the agent or lawyer who lodges. Queensland Guidance Statement No. 37 applies before a client’s identity documents go into a tool. If the review is in the Federal Circuit and Family Court, the Court’s practice direction applies as well.

## Questions

**Is it allowed to use AI for migration applications in Australia?**

Only as a draft the registered agent or lawyer checks against the current criterion. OMARA’s code still binds the agent. A secondary article is not the Office’s page.

**What tools are used for migration applications?**

This page does not approve a visa-drafting product. Use a tenancy whose terms you have read, and keep identity documents out of a public tool.

**Can the tool’s summary of a criterion be lodged?**

No. Open the instrument and match the submission to the criterion you can point to.
